My Lotion Recipe
Here is my go-to recipe for lotion with emulsifying wax:
- 1/4 cup emulsifying wax
- 1/4 cup almond oil
- 1/4 cup shea butter
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil
- 10-20 drops of essential oil (optional)
- 1 cup distilled water
To make the lotion, first combine the emulsifying wax, almond oil, shea butter, and coconut oil in a heat-safe jar or measuring cup. Place the jar or cup in a saucepan with 1-2 inches of water in the bottom. Heat the water on low to medium heat and stir the ingredients in the jar or cup until they melt and combine.
Once the ingredients are melted and combined, remove the jar or cup from the saucepan and add the vitamin E oil and essential oil (if using). Stir to combine.
In a separate heat-safe jar or measuring cup, heat the distilled water in the same way as before until it reaches a temperature of around 170°F.
Slowly pour the heated water into the melted oil mixture while whisking continuously. Keep whisking until the mixture thickens and becomes creamy. This should take around 5-10 minutes.
Once the lotion has thickened, pour it into a clean, sterilized jar or bottle. Let it cool completely before using. Enjoy your homemade lotion!
Tips and Tricks
- Make sure to use distilled water in your lotion recipe to prevent contamination.
- Use a thermometer to measure the temperature of your ingredients to ensure they are at the right temperature for emulsification.
- Experiment with different oils and essential oils to customize your lotion to fit your skin’s needs.
- If your lotion separates or becomes too thin, try adding more emulsifying wax or heating the mixture again.
My Experience
I first started making my own lotion with emulsifying wax a few years ago. I was tired of spending a lot of money on store-bought lotions that didn’t always work for my skin. I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to make and how well it worked for my skin.
Since then, I’ve experimented with different oils and essential oils to create unique blends that work best for me. Making my own lotion has become a fun and rewarding hobby for me, and I love sharing my recipes with others.
